How to meet people in San Diego?

my family recently moved to san diego and i just came back from college out of state. I can't drive on my own because I don't know the area well enough and I still haven't been able to find a job. How can I meet people my age (18) and make friends. I literally don't know anyone. I need some ideas because everywhere I go one of my parents have to be with me because of the driving. I feel so limited, whats out there that I can join or do? thanks!
